BEING INTOLERANT OF INTOLERANCE.

Tubularsock is going to relate a story to you that involves Tubularsock. And in truth it is rather “poetic justice” at one level because as you know Tubularsock puts out a lot of attack words toward our political leaders mostly because of the hypocrisy in their words and the injustice and inhumanity of their actions. Usually due to the ideal they say we hold dear and their actions that run counter to those ideals.

Hypocrisy really angers Tubularsock.
So does Intolerance !

My focus here is intolerance.

Years ago Tubularsock was involved with a group of people who were fighting discrimination against Black people in housing. Our group was a mixture of people of different backgrounds all focused on freedom for people/families of any ethnicity to be able to live where they liked.

At a televised city meeting Tubularsock was confronted by a group of the Aryan Brotherhood who attacked Tubularsock on his position calling him “Nigger Lover”. Only the presence of TV cameras and security prevented “Nigger-loving” Tubularsock from being physically assaulted by the Aryan Brotherhood.

Recently an issue arose within Tubularsock’s blogging neighborhood that Tubularsock entered into with his opinion.

The issue centered around outrage on the part of a Black blogger over Transgender discrimination issues being compared to Black discrimination issues. And the trigger point was the “Bathroom-use” controversy in North Carolina about which the Federal Government has taken legal actions in order to protect against Transgender discrimination.

The Black blogger’s blog rapidly devolved into an attack on Transgender people as “. . . you weird fucks stayed in the goddamn closet, just a cozying up to one another” and then more and darker insults demeaning gays and trangenders followed, until the blogger concluded with, “Goddamn it! Shut the fuck up over this gay rights bullshit SHIT already!!! It ain’t ALL about you!!!!”

Now Tubularsock expressed in his comment back to this blog that the issue of intolerance toward the Transgender community was no different than any other intolerance toward any other group.

And the fact that the author was spewing out hate toward a group that she didn’t understand and didn’t want to understand just brought up for Tubularsock all the hate that has been spewed toward the Black community from people who didn’t understand and didn’t want to understand people of another race.

The entire point Tubularsock was making was intolerance toward “others” is what Blacks have had to put up with and the Black blogger attacking another group is exactly what Blacks have had done to them.

The Black blogger’s response echoed the Aryan Brotherhood shout-down from Tubularsock’s past, but this time it was a Black blogger and Black commenters calling Tubularsock a “pink assed motherfucker”, “an idiot and a fool” and “a sick racist”!

And the topper, “hermaphrodite dude”!

So, from “nigger lover” to “hermaphrodite dude”. Is this some kind of life progression? Tubularsock doesn’t seem to know what it quite means yet. But for sure over all these years Tubularsock hasn’t stood still! Name calling and innuendo as if we were on a playground running “The Dozens” is a little childish for adult dialogue. The spectacle of hate directed toward the messenger is alive and well!

So the lack of compassion for other people’s problems because you think you have the ultimate pain, and the belief that  discrimination against YOU is worse than the discrimination and pain experienced by other groups: This is a blindness. It’s insane to debate who has suffered more pain through discrimination and intolerance throughout history and into the present — Blacks, Jews, Indigenous peoples, homosexuals, gypsies, fat people, Muslims . . . the list is endless!

The question that needs to be addressed is the mindset that leads to intolerance of, discrimination against, and the outright murder against “others”.

This is not to minimize the horrid, grotesque conditions and demeaning atrocities of slavery or of genocide or gas chambers but groups that have endured that kind of torment should be the last people to condemn and demean others. Standing against the integrity and freedom of people to be as they are and condemn them because you don’t understand why they are “that” way is the recipe for this violence to continue.

It is way past time to embrace a solidarity against intolerance, not to fight over whose pain and degradation wins the prize for being the worst. Hell, when it happens to YOU …… you get it and why on earth would you want to pass it on to others?

This can lead to and has led to the “divide and conquer” tactic of those who continue to stir up minorities against each other so that the power structure can maintain control. It is an age old colonial tactic which has been very effective.

It is INTOLERANCE that needs to end: This thinking that “They are not like me and so there is something inherently wrong with them”.

Life is a projection and what you put out is what you receive back at you.

You can open to loving or you can open to hate.
You can open to tolerance or you can open to intolerance.

THE FORCE IS YOU. USE IT WISELY.

I’m frustrated with the trans bathroom issue too, because there are still no bathrooms on many First Nations’ reservations, nor running water, etc., and so many homeless people without a bathroom, food, water, medical, housing, etc., that I can understand people finding this trans bathroom issue frustrating.
I think that when all people’s needs are met, then there won’t be anger from those who are being asked to feel compassion for others who do have access to bathrooms, but now want special bathrooms added for their needs to get met, whilst others don’t have any facilities at all, makes for privaleged folks who have access to medical (it’s very expensive to become a different sex from the body they were born with, only those with money and/or medical insurance that covers that can afford it, and that the the ongoing cost of expensive daily steroid hormone injections), and non-privaleged folks who can’t even buy a cheap pair of glasses at a thrift store.

Genie, thank you for your comment. The world definitely is an unfair place at so many levels and the issues continue and shall continue to be created for a variety of reasons.

For example, the concept of homelessness within one of the most powerful and wealthiest nations on earth just emphasizes the “lost” mindset that has occurred in the U.S..

But sadly, just meeting the basic needs of people will not end anger toward “others”. An entire conscientiousness shift will have to take place which from Tubularsock’s observation is extremely difficult to implement when people are so in denial of what is staring them in the face.

  6. Well-argued, Tubularsock. I agree that the oppression olympics only serves to divide and conquer those on the margins. Still, I remembering wondering what the administration’s agenda was for choosing gay marriage as their focal issue when there are too many egregious life-threatening tragedies worldwide to list. It felt like a set-up to foment conflict in the future. (I guess it’s just my experience watching how the state would deliberately attempt to divide tribes to compete over chump change in an attempt to keep them from presenting a unified force. It’s how the status quo has always worked with marginalized peoples.) Instead of addressing homelessness or militarized police murder of blacks or nuclear disarmament, to name just a few pressing concerns, we can focus on an issue that appears trivial on the surface and, as could be predicted, serves as a trigger to intensify inter-group conflict and hate. I’m sorry to hear you were caught in the crossfire for taking a principled, inclusive stand.

Thank you Carol. Tubularsock has spent his life in the cross fire but don’t worry Tubularsock wears a helmet when he’s out.

This entire “gay-thing” is definitely an odd place for the political-class to hang their hat EXCEPT as a diversionary tactic. It has always reminded Tubularsock of the street magicians that dazzle the crowd as their accomplice goes about picking their pockets.

Whenever these kind of social issues arise has always been a sign to watch your wallet.
It may had been just a tool to help Obomber get into the White House a second term. Friends of Tubularsock that are gay nearly stumbled over each other to support him and just didn’t want to hear Tubularsock’s “negativeness” about “their-hero”.

And now it’s the Lesbians and feminists that are blinded by Hillary’s gender rather than who she actually is and what damage she will do if elected. And all Tubularsock gets from them in argument is, “you don’t want a woman President”.

It was the same with “Mr. Hope and Change” all Tubularsock got was “he didn’t like Blacks”!

The RECORD of Obama when he was running as well as the RECORD of Clinton now are as plain as the nose on one’s face!

Tubularsock hates to be the one always to say this but READ THEIR RECORD … IS THAT WHAT YOU WANT?

Oh sure, Tubularsock has wandered off a bit here but it doesn’t mean he’s lost! Thanks, Carol.

        Hi, Tubes,

Don’t know exactly what I attempted, but it quickly became obvious to me that I had foundered before even beginning that attempt.

In part, I understand where the anger is coming from and so I can to a degree condone it; but only to a degree, because I also see it as an unreasoned reaction, as pathological, as a neuroses to be resolved and transcended.

Racism may understandably elicit a racist reaction, but what is necessary, what is absolutely morally imperative, is that I, as an individual, get myself beyond this malady, both for my sake and the sake of humankind.

As I tried to put it to the poetess; as you yourself say it in so many words; as Frantz Fanon puts it in his conclusion to “Black Skin, White Masks” and to quote him (again),

“The Negro is not. Any more than the white man.

“Both must turn their backs on the inhuman voices which
were those of their respective ancestors in order that authentic
communication be possible. Before it can adopt a positive voice,
freedom requires an effort at disalienation. At the beginning of
his life a man is always clotted, he is drowned in contingency. The
tragedy of the man is that he was once a child.

“It is through the effort to recapture the self and to scrutinize
the self, it is through the lasting tension of their freedom that
men will be able to create the ideal conditions of existence for a
        human world.

        “Superiority? Inferiority?

“Why not the quite simple attempt to touch the other, to feel the
other, to explain the other to myself?

“Was my freedom not given to me then in order to build the
        world of the You?

        “[. . .] I want the world to recognize,
with me, the open door of every consciousness.

        “My final prayer:

“O my body, make of me always a man who questions.”

Above all, in other words, may I, whomever I may be, strive and succeed in making of myself in my own conception of myself “a man and nothing but a man,” that is to say, a person who sees himself, first and foremost, as a human being, and thereby also everyone else as such, irrespective of their creeds (however twisted or injurious) or the color of their skin.

Racists see only essential and irreconcilable difference, including those who laud the attributes of other races (and tribes); humans who recognize themselves in every other human see but the manifestation of a single if currently unnecessarily and perversely divided essence.

If people can imagine themselves into races and tribes, they are all equally capable of imagining themselves into something bigger and more inclusive called mankind.

Yes, it’s really a choice that we can and do make.

Either we turn our backs on the inhuman voices which were those of our respective ancestors or we do not.

        We love or we hate.

Well you have hit the bottom line for Tubularsock ……. your projection is your reality.

Tubularsock understands the rage of injustice and the depth and frustration of that rage.
One sees it everyday in what the news tends to focus upon and Tubularsock can “go off” at the injustice.

And Tubularsock likes the fire and passion of one who has that will to communicate it. But striking out blindly in any direction because one has taken offense does not help to correct any perceived injustice. It divides.

Dialogue is a two way street if that is what one wishes to happen. If not then one can stay in the echo chamber till the cows come home!

  9. Hariod Brawn says:

A good friend of mine was a (sort of) godchild to the philosopher Karl Popper, and spent much of her childhood in Popper’s home. She tells me he was a quite wonderful and kind-hearted man. Your excellent essay reminded me of his following words:

“The so-called paradox of freedom is the argument that freedom in the sense of absence of any constraining control must lead to very great restraint, since it makes the bully free to enslave the meek. The idea is, in a slightly different form, and with very different tendency, clearly expressed in Plato.

Less well known is the paradox of tolerance: Unlimited tolerance must lead to the disappearance of tolerance. If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them.

In this formulation, I do not imply, for instance, that we should always suppress the utterance of intolerant philosophies; as long as we can counter them by rational argument and keep them in check by public opinion, suppression would certainly be unwise. But we should claim the right to suppress them if necessary even by force; for it may easily turn out that they are not prepared to meet us on the level of rational argument, but begin by denouncing all argument; they may forbid their followers to listen to rational argument, because it is deceptive, and teach them to answer arguments by the use of their fists or pistols.

We should therefore claim, in the name of tolerance, the right not to tolerate the intolerant. We should claim that any movement preaching intolerance places itself outside the law, and we should consider incitement to intolerance and persecution as criminal, in the same way as we should consider incitement to murder, or to kidnapping, or to the revival of the slave trade, as criminal.”

        Thx, Tubularsock.

About situation as a whole or as phenomena i would suggest that Tubularsock is alittle bit misleaded about the cause. Trouble of tolerance is just a surface thing…derivative thing from the core troubles.
Well, i did travel whole the world, but fairly about a half of it for sure starting from various Europe and ending by diverse Asia.

And i can say you one thing..if somebody ever will ask me how can characterize the western society in one word – it would be NOT kindness, not greed, not selfish, not progress, not justice, not opportunities, not stability etc… but HYPOCRISY.

When i was in Europe i noticed hypocrisy everywhere! Literally everywhere even in everday life and many various ppl interactions with each other… that situation literally made me nauseus sometimes at those moments. Moreover local folks are so adopted to it that they didn’t notice not only thier own hypocritic behaviour in some situation, but even generally from other persons – they are just completely blind to it! That was the most shoking experience for me in Europe generally.
Considering the North America this subject there should probably be even much worse issue than in Europe.

And imho that is hypocrisy that corrupted the ppls moral and just compass and that is why The West lost common sense long time ago… First they were injailing gays, they had pure racism, nazism and faschism, woman were unable to vote in Switzerland up to 1974 year! and many many more … now they they have what i call tolerasteia (gay parades, gay marriage, sex\drug\rockNroll low culture etc), vulgar destructive multiculturalism (which destroys as base host culture as arriving ones and creates something amorphous and ugly instead), appeared blacknazi, feminazi and various destructive and stupid feminism derivations, features of good and bad dissapered and so on.

What is? Obviously the absence of common sense in the society and ,what is more important, in ppl thinking process.

Why? – b\c hypocrisy became natural part of their mentality, mind and character, which in the end corrupted their way of thinking and rebuilded it.

So imho that is hypocricy which is the core problem of many many troubles in the western societie incl. this one, which we are disscussing here.

Moreover, about topic subject it is interesting option: i can tell a lot of ,lets say, not nice things about black ppl in US to that blogger we both know … and they are ALSO quilty in their overall troubles. Moreover i can use for that not some media or statistic sources, but MANY posts of THE SAME black blogger we are talking here about her fellow ppl. he-he ) Gues what she will answer me? lol
Even more, somebody would say ah…that is amercan black we know the special eh…lets say “special features”. But i have about 7 folks, who leave nextdoor and nearby me who worked in Africa on contracts from 1 to 5 years from Sout Africa, Nigeria, Botswana, Ghana, to Uganda, Tanzatina, Kenya and Eritrea\ Ethiopia. I can tell a lot of life and live stories from thess guys, which would explain a lot how africans themselfs contribute to their destiny additionally to western bloody bastards and robbers.
And what do you think our black friend will reply me? – i probably will be able update my dirty egnlish level and vocabulary sky-high. LOL 😀

That is why it useless to argue with such ppl- disscussion impossible.
And this is also why i don’t think that this problem will ever dissapper in US ..quite the opposite – it will become bigger and bigger – both sides are very hypocrite and both side have well grounded lets say “questions” to each other..and both sides don’t wanna see themselfs and to don’t wanna reach the suitable for both compromise.

So if you are there – move your ass out fo there and on new site buy some comfortable armchair, good powerful binocular\pair of glasses and load of pop-corn. 😉

p.s. In the cartoon is not Putin, but idiot Khrushchev.

Abracadabra you have focused on one of the fundamental issues of humankind …. Hypocrisy. And there is no question that European and American (U.S.) are up to their “hairs of their chinny-chin-chins”!

Of course hypocrisy is not owned by the West alone but they sure do their best to keep it in play!

And Tubularsock does agree that a scary element is when people don’t even realize that they are being it because it is so widely accepted.

It is very difficult to attempt to be an “open society” and maintain this stance while at the same time being afraid of “other’s ways”. And when those ways confront the main beliefs there is always trouble. And that is one of the challenges.

There is a danger in the term “common sense” however. Common to whom? Basically Tubularsock knows what is meant but that does not mean that EVERYONE has the same definition. For example, it is common sense to allow people of different races or sexual preferences to love and marry each other. (If you see what Tubularsock means. It’s common sense to Tubularsock and many others BUT ……….)

The topic of African Peoples and their lives and the Western domination of these areas is way too big a topic to discuss at this time but the distinction must be made between African Governing Classes and regular African People. And usually it is found that the ruling class is out to get “theirs” …. and fuck the people! Much like ruling classes in Western “democracies”.
As for American Blacks the outright murderous attacks by the police upon them with no regard for their human dignity and their human rights is so outrageously appalling that it can only bring about RAGE. And yet so many Americans are asleep to it.

Solidarity against this outrage SHOULD BE the order of the day but time again it is allowed to continue.

So until that takes place IN MASS it will be business as usual. There is no compromise to murder!

You just made an extreemely good point! I wondered that question (as well a lot of others) whole the time i’m learning english.

You see, in russian and many other slavic languages exist term “Здравый смысл”\ “Zdraviy smisl”, what literally can be translated as “healthy\sane\reasonable sense” and that actually resemble the real essense of the term\figure of talk.

That is very true. But infact cops and the whole punishment systems are corrupt to the core.
And what stupid ppl did? – they organized “Black lives matter” instead of something like “Fuck the police” for example and by such skin-related banner they cutted a lot of non-black ppl who also were suffering from police brutality or corruption.

And what did Black get at the finish with “Black lives matter” protest? – NOTHING! b\c the whole movement and control\managment over it were hijacked … by the establisment talking-heads and govermental agenda\ “decoy-duck” to calm down, shut-up and discredit the movement “Black lives matter” peacefully , silently, unwittingly\imperceptibly and stealthly from inside.

Nothing serious happened and nobody injuired- just normal life goin on. We are talking here about society problem…serious one – highly explosive and potentially bloody.
But not about somebody’s, particulary, Tubularsock, “hurted” feelings or other kind of infantile phyhology bullcrap. It is ok to get hot argues sometimes, it is ok to recieve dirty words wometime it is even ok to get punches in the nose sometimes – IT IS NORMAL! It is real life, but not some sort of phuking Matrix! And here is normal ppl, who undesstand this and can deal with this without any kind of a trouble.

And yes, the core of disscussion is also not trangenders. As for me i consider them as stupid sick infantile pervert ppl the same way as i consider rasists one, feminazi or balcknazi and so on.

For such ones dissussion and promoting of you business, career, self-pr as psyho-smart-ass etc – pls find some teens forums, moaning women societies, housewifes forums, communities of unhappy perverts etc, but pls be so kind – don’t shit with your absurdic artificial psyho dramas into our sane and mature brains.

Now, now Abracadabra ……. it appears you have an opinion here. Psychology is “neo-religious crap”? Psychology is “not” science? “PR” is not science?

Tubularsock has rushed off to inform the CIA and the “new” KGB so they will stop funding all that money to these programs!

Tubularsock would assume then that quantum physics is not “science” either because of the “belief” that without the active observation of the observer where the observer, the observed and the act of observation are inseparably united which causes what’s observed.

Of course there is no “proof” just theory so it can’t be “science”?

Tubularsock doesn’t care how psychology is defined. Mankind carries latent and not so latent traits that cause huge societal problems. And through therapeutic work, change can happen. Maybe we can all agree on the PR of psychology?

    Yes! Yes! Yes!

We have been labeled in every way possible by the powers that have always been: religions, governments, national/ethnic pride/patriotism, “science” (eugenics/genetics), etc, etc. We have been dehumanized in each other’s eyes, minds and hearts, through indoctrination, mind control.

And some are too hate-filled and ignorant to see that they are still being used by the very people who would sell them and use them as slaves, just like they had with their ancestors.

What I am first and foremost, is not a white person or a man; I am a human being, and so I am a member of the human race, a member of humanity. And as Norm’s entire comment (including the quote) points out, until we get back to that “garden”, where we are all human beings in each other’s eyes, minds and hearts, and not merely a so-called “species” to be labeled and categorized as to our individual place on some elitist hierarchy, we will continue to have those in power breed this kind of racial “superiority/inferiority” hatred, which this post was written to respond to in the first place.

Love or hate, it truly is our choice! The former will lead to understanding, healing and life, while the latter will lead to more of what we have had; more wounding, pain, hatred, violence/war and death!

      Hi Sojourner,

Some aspects of the article I like, others I don’t. For me, it remains too much within the paradigm of ‘difference,’ of culture as ‘essence,’ of the ‘us’ and ‘them’ mentality, despite wanting to appear as though going beyond these constraining bounds.

But in fact, the article does not touch the metaphysics of ‘culture,’ implicitly upholding as it does the notion that there are “indeed” peoples and that what defines a particular people, what sets it off from all others, is its zeitgeist, its particular way of feeling and thinking and behaving that is unlike that of “other” peoples (i.e., cultures exist but it’s okay to borrow elements of them even if you are not of ‘them’).

But what, really, is a culture? It is a loose set of behavioral and cognitive patterns shared across a fairly narrow or wide range of “individuals,” who share in these patterns only because they happen to engage in concrete and sustained interactions with each other, and being human, cannot but begin to mimic each other in their manners of speech, thinking, behaving, living, and so on.

Wherever you have two or more individuals engaging in sustained social intercourse, you have individuals who, in spite of themselves, internalize each other’s behaviors, and thus begin to look and sound like one another in many respects.

Culture, then, is nothing other than a set of contingent and accidental ‘memes,’ behavioral or cognitive schemata that spread by dint of habitual ‘contact.’ However, because humans are ultimately individual characters constantly evolving in the course of managing their complicated personal and public lives, so called cultures are also always constantly evolving and changing by dint of these individual changes, since individuals, in spite of themselves, constantly spawn new modes of behaving or living.

Thus the idea that “a culture” is a fixed and determinate thing over time is an illusion. Yes, it is always possible to point to a nexus of interacting humans and observe ‘similar modes of behavior’ that create, in appearance, a uniformity of apparent ‘sameness’ across many individuals and possibly spanning generations. But this is truly an abstraction, for everyone knows that between himself and his closest and most loyal neighbours, there are individual differences that give the lie to the appearance of an all embracing uniformity, that thing we call a ‘culture’ or a ‘unity in spirit,’ the so called zeitgeist of the people to whom we apparently belong.

In reality, culture is but the insubstantial echo of mimicked styles of individual appearances that have spread outward from localized and sustained interactions that have become formalized between concrete individuals. The further away, geographically or physically one person’s daily interactions happen to be from those of another, the more will they be different in their customary modes of behaving and thinking, the more “culturally different” will they appear to be from one another. But there is nothing at all essential about this. Indeed, it is an accident of distance and geography. No sooner do two such individuals begin to interact with each other in a sustained fashion than they begin to rub off on one another in their manner of being, in their styles of dressing, talking, cooking, etc. . .

Thus it is that the white kid with curly hair, who sees the curly haired dreadlocks of his black or Greek brethren, begins to coiffe his head in a like manner.

Those who would jealously guard their so called ‘ways,’ to my mind, certainly do deny others their humanity, since to be human is to internalize the ‘ways’ of our closest or most striking neighbours.
In this respect, I am agreement with the tenor of the article.

But exactly what purpose does this particular phrase serve if it is not a cute if gauche attempt to discredit all things marxist, and by implication, anything that Marx himself might have written: “It’s a form of soft control, a kind of cultural marxism . . .” ??

Honestly, I have no idea what the proscription against “cultural appropriation” could possibly have to do with either marxist scholarship or anything at all that Marx himself may have written.

      Best regards,

      –N

Interesting. Here in Ottawa, a transfer onto the 38 will take you from ‘The Forks’ to, of all places, the ‘Canadian Museum for Human Rights.’ So the ‘Bus’ may in fact be the connection.

As an irrelevant aside, but one that ties in with the museum that you brought up (since from a certain vantage, I may be the sock, and you the puppet): the museum was created to preserve the artifact of ‘human rights’ just after they created the ‘residential schools.’ I might be making up that last part, but I’m not entirely certain that it isn’t entirely true that for many of my fellow Canadians, human rights would have been a great thing to have once upon a time. But hey, if a Museum can get them, therein perhaps lies an intimation of better days ahead.

      Hi Genie,

What is your contention? That while Shelby engages people respectfully and tactfully, Tubes does not?

It was my experience that because Shelby “imagined” a perceived ideological difference between her and me, I was a “pink skinned motherfucker.” How does one jump from “because you do not appear to be entirely 100% in agreement with me about the kind of racist, bigoted motherfucker I think Sojourner is” to (and I’m paraphrasing) ” you are a “pink skinned motherfucker” who can’t possibly know what it feels like to be oppressed?” Is this the kind of “respect” you have in mind, Ginie? Is this the kind of “respect” Tubes left out of his comments to Shelby, or was it the kind that he showed? And how does Shelby, who doesn’t know me from a hole in the ground, know what colour my skin might be, and then why should the colour of my skin matter unless you are a hard-bitten racist?

Dialogue isn’t “I’ll agree with everything you say because if I don’t, you will lose your shit.” Rather, it is as much about possible agreement as it is about parsing the ‘ins and outs’ of possible disagreement in a spirit of critical inquiry, on the assumption that the dialoguers accept that their views may be erroneous or partial and that the encounter may help them to dispel whatever might be their respective illusions on the issue being discussed. So in a way, dialogue – respectful dialogue – is all about trying to change minds, be it one’s own or one’s interlocutors and most hopefully on the basis of a broadened perspective on reality.

So I would say that if Shelby permits people to comment on her blog, she do so in a respectful fashion, in the full expectation that not everyone, even among the most respectful folk you could possibly find, will agree with everything she has to say or won’t on occasion and because they are human miss-speak themselves and accidentally offend even as they mean no such offense. Shelby’s limits of tolerance, however, and you will surely agree, appear to be in this respect rather narrow if indeed not altogether somewhat beneath the threshold of what you seem to be here to vaunt, namely, ‘respect,’ and in particular, respectful dialogue, eh.

And if you are not here on an errand to correct Tubes in his opinion about a certain matter, then what of your comment? And if you are, are you not yourself guilty of what it is that you are accusing the blogger who is here hosting your comment? Who gave you the right?

      Kind regards,

      –N

Permit me one last admittedly puerile gesture in connection with ‘Madame La Poétesse’ — in case you might have missed it, so that you won’t have to hold your nose to go and read it — with only minor edits, my parting comment at the moment that ‘Your Majesty’s’ true colors finally became apparent to me:

A note for context: apparently, I had in my exchange with you, pink-skinned motherfucker that I am, dared to imagine that I could speak for her.

        To roughly paraphrase: ” . . . bla bla . . . fucking cocksuker !. . . bla . . . you can’t speak for me! . . .fucking bla bla !. . . no offhanded chastisements allowed on my blog . . . bla, bla . . . more verbal diarrhea . . . something about subhuman, predatory, vile ass beasts not being able to understand what others suffer . . . white cocksuckers . . .

        My reply:

        Norman Pilon
        APRIL 18, 2016 AT 2:29 PM

        Hi Shelby,

I don’t think I spoke on your behalf. In fact, I’m pretty sure I spoke on my behalf. I think I can judge for myself what “I think” you said even if I am categorically wrong in that judgement.

As for racism, what do you think you sound like when [you] write things like “I will not have pink-skinned motherfuckers imagining that they can speak for me[?]” Or “The world’s Black and Brown population would have been better off if Whites Were Not Allowed!”[?] No underlying “racial” theme, here. And yet to my ears it seems to mirror something with which I’m all too familiar.

And how do you know what the complexion of my skin is or of what “race” or ethnicity might have been […] my ancestors? And what if I disavow my ancestral heritage, whatever “that” might be, do you get to decide what the quality of my morals may be merely by being able to assess the “color of my skin” or what you decide is the legacy of my ancestry?

So your solution to “racism” is what? Never to forget the color of your skin and that of your oppressor? And what, until the white cocksuckers showed up, no African had ever murdered another African? No tribe had ever gone to war with another? And in North America, no Indian had ever committed a murder, either? And the Japanese had no notion of war until Europeans showed up? Ditto for the Chinese? Genghis Khan is a fiction made up by white cocksuckers to slander the innocent and peace loving peoples of the Mongol Empire?

Yeah, I agree. Exterminate the white cocksuckers, because they are all as guilty as ever a white cocksucker ever was because their skin is just as white [as his was], yes, all of them [guilty] for all time, the men, women, and children, above all the children because they are, whether they like it or not, the descendants of the line of cocksuckers, and everybody knows, even an atheist, that the sin of the father is visited upon the son.

Does any of this sound familiar? Isn’t this where the power elite exactly want all of the people they regard as the “little people” to be? At each other’s throats for every historical wrong ever committed by “all” of our ancestors?

I don’t know, Shelby, and I might well be wrong, but you are now coming off to me as being trapped in a mindset that is very akin to that of the white cocksuckers you so rightly deplore. That is, you seem to be as stuck on “skin color” as they are. By definition, that’s racism, even if you think that “some white folk” are okay, especially if they agree with everything you say.

        Yup, it’s fucked up.

And poor Dave. Damned by the color of his skin, too. I guess it feels good to kick the “white motherfucker” even if he isn’t at all what your undiscriminating outrage is making him out to be. And you’d be mistaken to believe that just because a person is in your eyes the wrong color, he or she can’t and hasn’t suffered.

Personally, all racists, whatever their color, can fuck right off.

        __________

Okay, that’s the last of it. I’ll never bring “her” up again. I guess she really got on my nerve. But I think that with that I have finally got her out of my head.

        Phew!

    Hi Norman,
    Thanks for clearing that up.

In my opinion, “I messages”, are a more helpful way to discuss things, on every topic, especially the hot, controversial and charged topics, instead of “You Messages”, now, having said that, it can also be a way to be “politically correct” in one’s words, but not in how it comes across.

Racism is one of those topics that doesn’t fit into a box, there is no “politically correct” way to adress the underlying issues, resentments, exploitation, ongoing persecution and oppression, etc., thus, to lecture a person on “tolerance” (when they don’t walk in that person’s moccasins, so to speak), often becomes loaded with hurt and anger.

I was shocked when a friend of mine (a math professor in England), spoke about Jews in the most shocking way, when I asked what was behind this extreme hate, he told me: “I’m a displaced Palestinian, I watched my father as he was shot by the IDF (should be called IOF — Israeli Occupation Forces), then, they raped my mother in front of my little sister and me, and sodomized her too, after which, they made my sister and I go outside while they torched our home. We lived in tents in Lebanon for many years without the basic nessecities of life, but after a long time, a kind family from Englad adopted us and sent my little sister and I to school and I recieved my PhD in Mathematics. How do you think I should feel towards Jews? My little sister still pees the bed, even though she is an adult, and I have nightmares still, every night.”

How could I tell him what to feel and think?

It’s the same with African Americans, unless one has lived through lynchings, houses burned down by the KKK, has deep scars on their back from lashes (or their relatives do), etc., then one is not in a position to judge how their language and attitude “should be”, according to privalged standards that are imposed on racial minorities who are told, “get over it”, but the racism goes on still, so how can they get “over it”?

      Hi Genie,

Okay, so unless I’ve scars across my back and my skin is black and I’ve experienced lynching firsthand, then I’m in no position to tell ‘them’ how their language and attitude “should be.” Is that correct? What if I’m black but haven’t myself directly experienced all the bad shit. Do I then have a right?

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

It would appear to me, from a few of the comments above, that a united humanity is out of the question, at least at this point in time! Norman attempted to use reason, but reason can only be effective on reasonable people.

This is why I post very little on the issue of race anymore. The war the elite swine started is still going on, and it will continue until people, no matter their fucking color or ancestral history, wake up and stop playing the stooge, while yacking on about who has a “right’ to do this on their “own blog” and who doesn’t!

We have no political rights! None of us! We only have universal rights. And until we come together, we will not have full access to these universal rights.

And by the way, every race of people have, at some point in history, been brutalized and enslaved by another race.

Sorry, Tube! This will be my last comment on this post! Nor will I respond to any feedback!

sojourner, Tubularsock could not agree with you more. “A united humanity is out of the question” is ONLY true if we are not invaded from another planet ……. you know how “the outside enemy” always unifies the sheeple!

But the likelihood of superior beings wanting to even deal with human-consciousness
is pretty much out of the question!

Thanks for your comment even though it is the last one this time around.

This is a really good post and an impressively heated discussion. I hardly see any reason for controversy. Some things are objectively wrong. Yes, prejudice and discrimination are wrong and I see no reason why we shouldn’t just all get together on that. Yes, restricting someone’s right to use a public bathroom of their choice is wrong. That’s tough to argue with. Acknowledging it as wrong doesn’t diminish the importance of ANY other past or present injustice.

Matt, welcome to Tubularsock. And thank you for taking the time to comment. Tubularsock couldn’t agree with you more. It all seem simple until you put it out there and then ……….

      ‘the shit hits the fan”

and that damn fan will splatter shit over anyone without discriminating!

And the end result is that we are all in this shit together. How egalitarian can one get?

      Thanks again.
