Americans are actually not stupid. They are miseducated and deliberately misinformed, and because they have to run so hard just to keep their heads above the water line, economically speaking, they don’t have the time or the energy or the means to sort out what is really going on, although amazingly, many do manage to sort it out despite the incredible odds against that happening. I don’t think it’s fair to accuse them of being stupid just because their ‘media’ tries hard to create the impression that they are and that their concerns are what the media claims to reflect.
The question is, to my mind, why is the American press so stupid? For an answer to this question, see Chomsky’s magnum opus, something about manufacturing consent, but don’t look much at anything coming out of his mouth these days as more than intellectual magnum opium. It’s as stupid as what’s on display uniformly and everywhere in America’s ‘for-hire-we-will-even-look-really-fucking-stupid-for-you’ corporate press.
Other than that, I agree with every suspension point, the period and the question mark in your reply to me . . .

Well Norman, Tubularsock does have to admit that he does do a great period for sure.
And would say that a blanket statement, a Tubularsock specialty, is always questionable.
Yet Tubularsock believes that there is more to the story than “media/government information manufacturing” leading the poor overworked slobs to the abyss.
That is not to negate your insightful observations including your agreement with the question mark. Which, if truth be known, Tubularsock fabricated himself.
The media HAS ALWAYS been manipulated and has always been stacked against truth but was presented as a “free press” because the term itself was a misnomer. Even old Ben Franklin knew the value of writing and creating the narrative for the populous because whoever controls the narrative controls the “truth”. And Lynne Cheney’s children’s books helps to create the narrative of the “American-Way” early!
And that is all well and good until today’s world when with one click of a button you have the views of the world at your fingertips. Granted you have to decide between pro-wrestling and football vs reading which admittedly is a major stumbling block BUT THE CHOICE is there. And it is easy to be informed from a variety of points of view on YouTube alone so you don’t even have to read! One doesn’t even have to get up from the couch!
Now another major stumbling block is DO YOU WANT TO KNOW or just take the “lazy-way” and let others decide and tell you what to think. Granted the school system isn’t strong on critical thinking but an individual doesn’t live in a void and has some ability to notice when something is bullshit, minimally from the smell!
So it really comes down to the individual and the stupid equation is proportional to one’s need and interest in knowing.
