Let's Talk Heading

You know, it may be just Tubularsock but this prison break in New York State is taking it’s news spotlight, its fifteen minutes of fame.

A couple of things. The Associated Press reported today in an article entitled Prison break spotlights code of silence behind bars which quotes Gov. Andrew Cuomo as “sarcastically” stating, “Nobody heard anything. Nobody saw anything, they’re all heavy sleepers.”

Well, Tubularsock doesn’t know a great deal about prison life but if I recall, prisoners are not responsible for keeping order in a prison. Tubularsock has always thought that it is the guards that do that job.

So, the more significant question would be …… where were they? They never saw anything, they never heard anything …….. were the guards asleep?

So lets get this straight …… the Guards guard, that is their job. The prisoners are guarded. The guards are the ones that are responsible for keeping the prisoners in the prison. That is not the prisoners job!

Code prepared

So this “code of silence” of prison inmates is not the issue at hand. The issue at hand is how did two prisoners use power tools to cut through steel, break through brick and slice open a steam pipe at night without making any noise? How do power tools not break the “code of silence”?

To prove Tubularsock’s point, tonight take out your electric coffee grinder and grind a pound of coffee. Say like 2 AM. See if it wakes anyone. Better yet take out a circular saw with a metal blade and start cutting steel pipe on your front porch. Then time the response of your neighbors yelling at you and be sure to keep time of how long it takes the cops to show up from across town.

Of course you could be using the new “code of silence” saw and then you’ll get away with it.

Will wonders ever cease to amaze Tubularsock. Not likely.

Power tools with silencers! Perhaps the escapees will take their million $$$ idea to corps and make off like bandits. 🙂

  2. Tubularsock, Thanks for an intriguing post — and those power-tool silencers will be a huge hit! Too bad you couldn’t have them on the shelves for the fathers day buying season. Looks like noise-canceling technology isn’t just for drones any more. Then again, my cousin, a former prison guard, says you can cut steel bars with dental floss held with toothpicks. No wonder the damn stuff always lacerates my gums! He also tells me you can cut a respectable knife blade from a steel door panel, using a simple piece of rock carried in from the exercise yard. Must be how they built the pyramids.
It does seem like it might be easier just to bribe or intimidate folks into … selective deafness. But the way it’s going, we may all need to hone our Houdini acts soon enough, so I’ll pass along all such useful DIY tips. – Linda

Oh yes, father’s day buying season. It would be a big seller but Tubularsock suggests the nick tie for strangling one’s father as the ultimate silencer! (Did Tubularsock really suggest that?) With that suggestion one might end up attempting the dental floss trick!

Your cousin seems to have learned all kinds of tricks. In prison Tubularsock guesses one would have a great deal of time to think up shit and depending on one’s sentence enough time to pick up stones from the exercise yard to build a pyramid high enough to get over a 40′ wall.

      Thanks Linda.

If a saws-all cuts pipe in the prison and there’s no one around to hear that, does the saws-all still make noise?

Great question, Don! From Tubularsock’s experience it would all depend on the manufacturer of the reciprocating saw. If you use a Milwaukee or a Bosch the chances are no noise would be made if there is no one around. However this can not be said for Craftsman or a Ryobi. The latter two would make noise even if they weren’t running.

And yes, your question is cutting edge. Thanks.

Never gave it much thought, Tubularsock, but many good points there. Maybe CSI should get on the case and check Bank accounts etc. This may have a future story behind it.

    • tubularsock says:

Thanks Leslie. Don’t you worry, CSI is already on this like a fly to shit. That is what TV is all about! There is a great story behind all of this and the nice thing is truth is stranger than fiction so it should be easy. But they better hurry because they are being cancelled after 15 years at CBS in September.

Why this all reminds me of the “cone of silence” is probably why my library card keeps getting revoked. Not quite the same as the prison break…but I’m certain my birthday will be taken away next. Which at this point, probably isn’t such a bad idea.

I wish Tubularsock could hear what you are writing lens1 but with the “cone of silence” on ……. what?

Having your birthday taken away is very similar to a prison break, if you ask Tubularsock, in that within the illusion that has been perpetrated upon all of us it would be like breaking the mirror. Just sayen’.

Thanks for the comment …… it made Tubularsock get smart!

  6. I’m really shocked the prisoners are not being more cooperative. Especially when you consider how caring and supportive prison guards usually are.

Wow NFTR, Tubularsock knows just what you mean. Those caring and supportive prison guards give and give and this is what they get back! Just goes to show you that the criminal element just has no loving awareness. It is just not fair.

Thanks for understanding and for your comment.

  7. I wish they all could have escaped and never get caught! Hell! I would have kept my silence too. And if those murderers head for the halls of congress and the White House, all the better, I say. If they can make it out of a maximum security prison, the yahoos that pass for the Secret Service should be a piece of ‘cake’ to get by.

We should all place power saws inside cakes and special deliver them to ALL prisons! Because quite obviously, the ‘guards’ are going to promptly fall asleep or look the other way, or ‘hear nothing’.

And the stupid fuckers are wondering why there were crickets chirping after all of the sawing and scraping and blueprint rustling had ceased. Are they for real? Seriously? This ‘prison break’ makes those assholes look even more clueless than ever; from the governor on down.

    Great post as usual Tubularsock!

Thanks Shelby. Tubularsock likes the idea of “power saws inside cakes”. So much more 21st Century than the old file idea.

The only issue I have about having all the murderers going to the White House and the halls of congress is that there is an overcrowding of murderers already there!

    • LOL! Touché! But then again, it would be nice to have a 21st Century real life scenario of ‘Shoot-out at the DC Corral’! I’d be rooting for the maximum security prison escapees. Or how about ‘DC Chainsaw Massacre’?

  9. sojourner says:

Come on, this is easy, it was all done with mirrors! Or maybe it was an “INSIDE” job? There evidently was nothing CONspicuous to the guards on doody. Or maybe the guards were held “CAPTIVE” by the shear magnitude of the escape!

Maybe the other inmates sang, “Please release me, let me go,” while the two escaped with the use of mirrors?

Now, “Be Verwy, verwy quiet! We’re hunting felons! hahahahahahah! You cwazy wabbit!”

    • tubularsock says:

      Cwazy wabbit, indeed!

Mirrors you say …….. well that does sound like a plausible idea, sojourner. Tubularsock can clearly see himself when he looks into one.

And the prison choir singing is a very nice touch. Very clever, very clever!

So the two CONs are really still in their cell and the cops are running about and after the cops can’t find them the CONs will just walk out the front door as New York State Mirror Inspectors.

  10. The US is notorious for its ruthless incarceration, especially of minorities, for victimless crimes. If a few prison guards have comes to their senses and decided to let a few go, I’m all for it.

I found jail not to my liking AT ALL. The only guards that had any concern over prisoners seemed to be homosexuals on the make, or crooks working with old friends from the neighborhood.

Norris, you deserved your jail time. You were GUILTY after all. As for your friendship with the guards and crooks you seemed to get along so what’s your bitch now?

Thanks for your insight from behind the bars.
